Human Clones!
3/9/18
Stephen Sellers 3/4
Human Clones will be useful for only medical reasons. I believe that human clones will be useful for only medical reasons because they would have the same blood type and fresh organs for transplants. There is not really another reason for why we would clone humans. They would probably get used incorrectly and they would get in the wrong hands and would cause some kind of revolution against our presidency.
The tech that would be used for the cloning process would cost more money then we have causing us to owe more money to countries such as China, Belgium, and Japan. We already owe 17.8 trillion dollars to China, Belgium, Japan, Caribbean banking centers, and oil exporters. I don't think we need to owe anymore money to other countries.
Clones could also be used as an absence card so he/she could go to school for you and you could just sit there at home. Clones could also be used for just having a friend that is just as weird as you to do activities with. This isn't a good thing but someone would probably make a master race that would rule over everybody.
For this to be possible we would need to advance a lot in the near future. The tech would be so advanced that only a few trained people would know how to use it. However, it would be so cool to have a second you and just be able to do anything with him/her. It would be fun to have a second you to just be able to talk to when you are sad or having a bad day. You could also use your clone for just having someone to hangout with cause maybe you're lonely.
With cloning happening who would be cloned? I believe that there would be a lot of money involved so the people who would get clones would be the people that have a lot of money/have saved up to get cloned for some odd reason. Or there could be a person that is superior to us and he is deciding who gets cloned and he would probably make a master race depending on your health and color.
You might be asking what cloning is and it is a process which hasn’t yet been used on humans but there has been success with cloning monkeys which are primates and we are primates. The cloning process is where you take genetic information from one living thing to another living thing to make identical copies. Some clones would have different personalities but they would look identical. This process isn’t super confusing to understand but I’m sure it would be super hard to get genetic information from one thing to another, after all it took 20 years to clone something after Dolly the Sheep was cloned. Dolly the Sheep was the first ever cloned animal and now there are monkeys that are being cloned with the same process so it won't be super long until we are the next things to be cloned.
Howstuffworks.com says that the cloning process would cost approximately $50,000 which some people wouldn’t want to spend. At least I know I would not want to spend that amount of money to clone myself. With this cloning happening there would be a lot more going on in our small world and we don’t need that as we are already overpopulated. People that have a lot of money would be cloning themselves for fun but there are other causes that could be helped with that money. You could use your money to help pay for homeless shelters just to get the less fortunate people jobs, food, and maybe a shower and a shave.
With a bit of work we can clone anything we want including ourselves. We will be able to mass produce ourselves by injecting fetuses with our DNA to make exact clones and the ones that didn’t look like you would be killed. We don’t want clones to ever be introduced to the human race. With human cloning comes great responsibility and we probably don’t have enough responsibility to clone people in the right way and we would just be cloning people just to kill them and use their organs. I feel like clones should not be introduced into the human race because the technology to clone will fall into the wrong hands like in the movies.

TKAM/MWB Seminar
Reflection
I think a key subject that came up in the seminar was how black people are seen differently than white people. Another key subject was, we don’t understand until we are friends or have relatives that are of different race. We got really into depth on how black people are seen differently than most white people. We talked a lot about if this book should be banned or not from high schools reading it and we came up with it should not be banned from high schools reading it. I thought that it should be banned for its excessive use of the n word in a bad way like don’t act like an n word but never got to express how I felt.
I felt that the most interesting question we discussed was do you think this book should be banned from high schools reading it. Everyone except for me thought it was good for them to hear the n word and thought it shouldn’t be banned. I thought the n word was used in such a rude way and was not appropriate for freshman in high school. Even though we are not a very racial town it’s not a word you can just throw around like it’s nothing. In the book this is something that was said. “Don’t you believe a word he says, Dill.” “Calpurnia says that’s n****r talk.” (pg. 49). I feel that they could have used a different word or just not referred to black people as awful; people.
I feel like I wasn’t prepared to do the seminar and felt that we had to much time and I procrastinated. I finished the book before break and was happy with what I had annotated. I feel like the annotations helped me but I didn’t talk because I kept getting interrupted and when there was time to talk it was on a subject that I didn’t have anything for. I feel like if it was direct questions to me I could have done a lot better but I didn’t have anything relevant when the time was right to talk. I liked how it was kind of flowing and was pretty good for our first seminar. I would like to have everything done beforehand and I would like to have it on something other than a book at some point this year.
I felt like this book did matter and was good for us reading it but I felt like the racism in it was a bit excessive. This book mattered because it related to what is happening today and I feel like it was good for us to get a better understanding of what is happening today. Today we are having the same racial slurs being thrown around like its trash that doesn’t mean anything. In my eyes I see racial slurs as something that you don’t say unless you're calling yourself what you are. In conclusion I think this book was necessary for us to read because of how it relates to real world problems that are happening today.

Mask
Mask essay
Socialized by stereotypes
How have stereotypes have socialized me? Stereotypes have socialized me to put on a “mask” and act differently around certain people. It's sad how many stereotypes there are about teenageers in particular, like stoner, and bad kid. Stereotypes have made me as a person really two sided sometimes there not bad but other times they make you feel like you don't belong. How have stereotypes socialized you?
I have been socialized by stereotypes to put on a “mask” when I am around certain people. When I am around some people I put on a mask to act like I do bad things and feeling a need to belong has pushed me to do that. For me, putting on a mask is like doing something that you don't like to do, or eating something that you don't like but you have to eat it because you’re at a friends house and you’re hungry. Around my parents I am a different person because I need to impress them and make them think that I am a good son that will never make bad decisions. Most people are bound to try drugs or alcohol sometime throughout their lifetime. My parents know that I am most likely going to try something later on in life because they were my age and know the influences to smoke and drink.
Stereotypes about teenagers are not helping the suicide rate of Colorado. Colorado's suicide rate is one of the highest in the country, it’s climbing with 19.4 suicides for 100,000 residents, according to data from the Colorado Health Foundation. Just in Durango we had 20 suicides in 2017. There are many stereotypes about teenagers that are about us stealing and just doing illegal things. I’m not saying some teenagers don't do illegal things, but the ones that do are the ones that the stereotypes are talking about. Kids my age are doing drugs because of just words that they keep hearing over and over again. Sure it might make them feel better but it will destroy your future because at my age it will kill your brain cells. Colorado needs to reinforce their laws about underage drinking and smoking. Animas has kids that do that on a regular basis and a lot of those kids are actually smart but are just killing their brain cells.
There are some stereotypes that are not bad and that make you feel better. Like for me some stereotypes that are good about things I do make me feel better about myself. There are also stereotypes that are awful and make you feel like a delinquent. Stereotypes have molded me into the person that I am. Stereotypes can be really two sided and are usually bad but can be good and uplifting sometimes. Sometimes there are people trying to make you feel better but say something like a stereotype that is supposed to make you feel good but makes you feel way worse about yourself.
In conclusion Stereotypes have made me a better person but can make some people feel bad and then turn you into a bad person. For some of my friends stereotypes made them stoners and then made them good kids again. Stereotypes are not good and we should try our best to make them help people feel better about themselves instead of worse. I personally don't use stereotypes to make anyone feel better or worse. Stereotypes aren't a good thing and we should try to stop them from being used any more than they already have.
Mask Project Reflection
During the Mask Project we were asked to learn about socialization. We were asked to make a mask on what we feel how we've been socialized. We did a lot of lead up to the mask including working on a packet while Stephen was gone this packet was about a essay on how we have been socialized. We worked on this packet while Jared was here and it didn’t really help me that much because I didn't use a single thing I said in the brainstorming process. I felt like the semester did not have a very good flow because Jared was here and we didn’t do anything really useful when he was here.
I feel that I stretched myself way more than I usually would because I actually had to get my stuff done and in on time. I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone in the way of I had to really access my creativity in the mask and it was really hard for me because I am not super creative. I finally came up with making it about stereotypes that have broken me down. I didn’t use my time wisely so I had to do a bit of reading over break. I didn’t talk to stephen at all because I thought I would be alright with my brother helping me. I told some of my classmates to get on task but I don't consider that being advocacy. I persevered through having to make another mask because mine got stolen. I didn’t give up and worked super diligently through my difficulty. I had my brother and my mom and some friends refine my essay and I feel that it turned out pretty well. In my essay I took a lot of pride in it because I felt it was really good.
This project impacted me as a person very differently than I was expecting. Before this project I didn’t really follow social media and how we have been socialized and this project really opened my eyes to what is really going on. I feel that I developed realignment as one of my strengths because before this project I couldn’t refine anything and it was all bare minimum. Now I can refine my own work to make it as best as it can be. I think I refined my best work this year to make it better and stronger. I am looking forward to making essays and free writes very strong this semester.
